Kazakhstan-EU Gateway held a meeting with Dr. James Watson, Director General of Eurometaux, the European non-ferrous metals association.
The discussion focused on cooperation in the field of critical raw materials (CRM) and the upcoming CRM business mission, highlighting the growing strategic importance of secure and resilient raw materials supply chains for Europe’s industrial competitiveness and energy transition.
Participants also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between industry stakeholders and policy platforms in support of deeper engagement between the European Union and Kazakhstan in the critical raw materials sector.
Dr. Watson has served as Director General of Eurometaux since December 2024. With over 25 years of experience in European policy, advocacy, and public affairs, he has previously led major European industry associations including Eurogas and SolarPower Europe. His career has consistently focused on the intersection of industry transformation, sustainable policy, and European competitiveness.
Dr. Watson holds a PhD in International Trade and Environmental Law from the University of Leeds and has also contributed to research and teaching in this field.
