Brussels, 16 October 2025 – Founders of Kazakhstan-EU Gateway (KEG) Valikhan Bakhretdinov and Zhanybek Yessimseitov held a meeting with Dr. Marat Terterov, Principal Representative and Advisory Board Chair of the Brussels Energy Club (BREC).

During discussion, the parties addressed a number of key strategic topics, including:
- Enhancing cooperation between KEG and BREC to support Kazakhstan’s energy transition and its integration into European and global energy markets.
- Exploring opportunities for joint initiatives on sustainable energy, clean technologies, and investment frameworks that can bridge Kazakhstan’s abundant resources with Europe’s decarbonisation agenda.
- Identifying practical mechanisms to mobilise private-sector investment, share best practices from European energy-policy frameworks, and promote Kazakhstan as a reliable partner in energy infrastructure and green-growth projects.
- Strengthening policy dialogue to align Kazakhstan’s roadmap for renewable energy, green hydrogen, and low-carbon solutions with emerging EU standards and frameworks for energy security and sustainability.
Dr. Terterov, founding figure of BREC with more than 25 years of experience in energy, geopolitics and investment, emphasised the vital role of strategic partnerships in bridging producer and consumer nations, remarking that “the nature of dialogue must evolve if we are to turn potential into concrete investment flows.” The KEG founders highlighted Kazakhstan’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix, building value-added capacity, and attracting international expertise and capital to accelerate its energy transition.

Both sides agreed to establish a dedicated discussion platform that will convene in the coming weeks. This group will focus on: drafting joint project proposals, setting up regular stakeholder roundtables in Brussels and Astana, and facilitating introductions between European energy-investment players and Kazakhstan-based opportunities.
The meeting marks a significant step forward in the cooperation between Kazakhstan’s emerging energy-gateway institutions and Europe’s expert platforms. By bringing together KEG’s strategic ambition with BREC’s extensive network of industry, institutional and regulatory stakeholders, the two organisations intend to reinforce Kazakhstan’s position as a dependable partner in the energy transition and grow tangible projects in the region.
